Waiting for Salone del Mobile 2019

|

Every year the highly anticipated press conference of the Salone del Mobile always kickstarts the creative mood that characterized Milan Design Week. This year, on the occasion of the 58th edition of the event, the centrality of Milan has been confirmed, not only for its magnetic ability to attract creativity but also for its extraordinary industrial network.

Milan is increasingly becoming a point of connection between opportunities for relationships (especially international ones) and for the concrete development of the creative industry. This year, the word “genius” was added to the Manifesto of the Salone launched last year to pay tribute to the creative genius of Leonardo da Vinci, the first true precursor of the relationship between creativity and entrepreneurship. Leonardo will be celebrated at Conca dell’Incoronata with AQUA, an installation dedicated to his studies on water, curated by Marco Balich, former creator of the Tree of Life at the Expo. In Hall 24 of the Fair, on the other hand, there will be DE-SIGNO, an installation to discover the Italian design culture before and after Leonardo.

From 9th to 14th April, Salone del Mobile 2019 will open its gates in Rho with an edition ready to break every record. The first news, beautiful for lightlovers like me, is the presence of Euroluce, the biennale that launches the best lighting solutions for interior and outdoor. I’m sure that the 420 exhibitors will make our eyes sparkle! Interesting will also be xLux, a sector dedicated to timeless luxury, reinterpreted in a contemporary way.

Another unmissable event is SaloneSatellite 2019, dedicated to young emerging talents. This year’s theme for over 550 protagonists is “Food as a Design Object“. Eyes focused on the tenth birthday of the SaloneSatellite Award.

Another new feature of the 2019 Salone concerns Workplace3.0, the Salone dedicated to the office, which will no longer be confined to a single pavilion, but will be present in the entire fair area. Almost a metaphor of the changes that have affected the work environment, more and more open spaces to the contamination of other daily activities and professional sharing.

How not to mention the Fuorisalone 2019, with all the events, exhibitions and installations that will be added to the exclusive parties around the city. The most involved districts will be Brera, 5 Vie, Tortona, Isola, Porta Venezia, Ventura Project, Lambrate and Milano Durini.

Now I consider myself a veteran of the Salone del Mobile, which is why I reiterate some practical advice about how to face the Milan Design Week more serenely:

  • prepare comfortable shoes and elegant shoes, then switches them when there are more formal occasions (yes, I do the same ?);

  • do not overdo with warm clothes, especially in the Fair it turns well even in shirts;

  • prepare a calendar of pavilions and stands you want to visit. The more you get unprepared, the greater the time you lose in getting acquainted with the maps;

  • smartphones and powerbanks, always with you!

  • water, bring water, you will always be thirsty! Maybe because wonders leave you high and dry…

  • if we get caught around, let’s take a picture together 🙂

Have you already been at the Salone del Mobile? You say the Fuorisalone is more fun? So, glamour parties or better ride in the Fair to discover interesting products? The opportunities will be a thousand, the tiredness will be so much and things to discover endless. Everything is ready? Questions, suggestions on events? Ask me everything in the comments 🙂
