That of 2023 was a Salone del Mobile now in its 61st edition. In defiance of those who point to it as an event ready for retirement, it can be said that the Salone in Milan is once again the Salone in Milan.

Not only the numbers say it, with a +15% compared to 2022, for a total of over 307k accesses. Chinese, Indian and Brazilian people were back to the pavilions. The general sensations also say so. The quality of the meetings at the Fair, the quality of the visitors to the stands, the high interest shown and abundantly documented on social media are additional factors that add up to the numbers, which are already clear indicators.
Euroluce 2023 and the hunger for design
I think the new walkway layout between the stands has little to do with it, because it seemed to me not so innovative, but maybe just changed. It certainly helped to make only one floor of the fair viable and the magic of Euroluce that had been missing for too long. But the real reason is to be found in the hunger for design. Now that more and more often it borders on art, craftsmanship, the aesthetic consideration of the beautiful and the useful, design takes on substance. It no longer only attracts the curious, but brings enthusiasts, lovers and addicts closer together. Design is a work of contamination, of needs that become living conditions, of use, of rest, of leisure, of travel.
Let’s say that even the weather winked at the Salone, giving the design-weekers wind, rain and low temperatures especially on Thursday and Friday. So everyone indoors between the stands, with all due respect to the queues under the umbrella of the more glittering Fuorisalone, widespread, very widespread, throughout Milan.
No controversy, mind you, but the need for pre-registration complete with an indication of the scheduled time slot for visits that last 15 minutes has perhaps become an exaggeration. It is certainly difficult to organize.
