After having talked about exaggerated design Christmas gifts, a couple of days ago, it’s now time to draw up a different list, less stunning but definitely very useful, to find the perfect Christmas gift from the world of design. I have decided to suggest classic / vintage design products which can make you look good on a small budget: less than €100,00!
Let’s start now!
1. Savoy vase by Alvar Aalto
I want to start with a true Scandinavian design icon. A piece that dates back to 1937 but it’s timeless. What do you think of Alvar Aalto’s Savoy Vase? I would take the 120mm version at €99,00.
2. Bottle by 24Bottles
The Bottle by 24Bottles at €27,00 is the perfect gift for everyone who has an eco-friendly approach to life and a big heart for the environment. Below you will find the pink marble and black marble versions. Yes, you guessed the latter is my favourite.
3. Hourglass by Hay
Could I miss an hourglass in my list for you? Unlike the one I spoke about in my last article (from Venini), the hourglass Clessidra from Hay is a smaller version and much cheaper. It can be yours for just €12,00.
4. The corkscrew "Anna G" by Alessandro Mendini
First produced in 1994, the corkscrew Anna G by the master Alessandro Mendini for Alessi, immediately jumped into the world of design and has become a kitchen/table icon ever since. Available now at €40,00. Not bad!
5. "Juicy Salif" juicer by Philippe Starck
Another timeless icon for the kitchen? The Juicy Salif juicer by Philippe Starck for Alessi at €52,00. With Alessi and Starck you can never go wrong.
6. Pols Potten Ananas ornament
Pineapple shaped ornamets have been out of the limelight in recent years. We have seen them used in all ways and with many brands. Pols Potten’s version at €67,00 in my opinion is the best of the bunch. The relationship between aesthetics, quality and price is exceptional. Give me your vote here.
7. Lampadina by Achille Castiglioni
The time has come for ‘lights’. I am passionate about lighting and so I have two gift ideas. The first is a Lamp by Achille Castiglioni for Flos, at €98,00. The designs from Castiglione looks great in all homes, you can never get it wrong.
8. Dalù by Vico Magistretti
The second lamp that could be a great Christmas gift is the Dalù by Vico Magistretti designed for Artemide, which you can find for €85,00. I have to confess, I have an orange one, in the entrance to my house. I love it!
9. Tank Rame whisky set
Statistically, December is the month in which the celebrations and parties increase exponentially. That’s why the Tank Rem set of two whisky glasses by Tom Dixon at €70,00 will surely be welcome thought. Cheers!
10. Fragrance sticks by Joe Malone London
Fragrances in an environment are fundamental as they are able to determine our perception of the space we are in. There are many fragrances sticks for this purpose but that of Jo Malone London, at €75,00, remains one of the best for me.
11. Elephant Mouse pad
Of course, I have also thought about ‘geeks’! A computer accessory which is also slightly classic in design? The Elephant Mouse Pad by Vitra, just €26,00. Working on the PC with a piece from Vitra is only a click away.
In short, keeping an eye on the price for your gifts but with your heart always tuned into design. I hope that this selection of design gifts under €100,00 will be useful to you.
